You have just arrived in Austria, what do you need to do?
- You are planning to stay longer than six months in Austria and you have a valid residence permit. If you do not have a valid residence permit, please read the information in our section proof of residence.
- You must register you new address within three days after relocating.
- You must re-register your driving licence to an Austrian driving licence within six months, in case you have a foreign driving licence. It is possible that you may also have to do a practical driving test.
- If you have never been employed in Austria, your employer must apply for an employment permit.
- In case you need medical treatment that is not covered by the benefits of the Austrian health care system, you should cover a private health insurance as a precaution.
- You need to apply for recognition of school reports, professional qualifications and final degrees of university, that you have acquired abroad.
- You must furnish proof of your German language skills within two years.
