Protecting our environment

In Austria, environment protection plays an important role. Part of this is also climate protection. It is important to protect and preserve our environment because it is the basis of existence for all human beings. Every person can contribute to the protection of the environment with his or her responsible behaviour, like waste separation, using public transport, buying local products or consuming less energy at home.

Waste separation

There is a lot of waste that does not belong into residual waste. Metal, paper, glass or plastic have their own refuse containers. If you cannot find a suitable refuse container in front of your house or apartment building you have to bring your waste to a collecting point nearby or to a special collecting point for refuse. It is not allowed to put waste next to a container.

Preventing animal abuse

In Austria, not only the environment, but also animals are protected. There are numerous laws that regulate how animals need to be looked after in case of illness or injury and how to rear animals. There are strict regulations against animal abuse.

Public transport

The correct use of a car contributes to climate protection and can help you to keep your fuel costs low, for example driving short distances with a car should be avoided. In Austria, an alternative to cars is a fully developed public transport system. It is possible to reach your destination comfortably, cost-effectively and often faster with trains, busses, trams or metros (in the capital Vienna). Additionally, you can avoid exhaust gases and protect the environment.

Saving energy

Many small actions help to save energy on a big scale: switching of the light when leaving a room, unplugging electrical devices that are currently not in use or reducing the room temperature a little bit, are only a few examples.
